Cisjordan or Palestine?
Palestine include all Palestinian territories, that is to say Cisjordan and the Gaza Strip. Cisjordan is the ensemble of the territories situated between Israel and Jordan.
Before the creation of Israel in 1948, Cisjordan was part of Palestine. It was called Cisjordan in reference to Transjordan (the present Jordan) because they are situated at the sides of the Jordan River. Cisjordan went, in 1948, under the Hashemite control, that is to say under the Jordanian control. It was occupied by Israel in 1967 and was called Jude-Samaria in 1970 for the Jewish State.
You can find all pieces of information in the site “Palestinian Solidarity” and in the official site of the Palestinian Government. We also suggest you to visit Qalqilya, the town that hosts the only zoo of the Palestinian territories and that tries to welcome tourists.
